The Speakers

Aprí Medina has nearly 20 years experience in the University of California system, serving in various roles in financial aid and the registrar’s office before joining the UC Office of the President in 2021. She earned her PhD in Higher Education from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln in 2020 and has a background in clinical psychology. She began her career as a work-study student in financial aid at UC Santa Barbara and found a passion for issues of access and affordability. Aside from her work, Aprí also enjoys food done well, traveling globally and watching various science fiction shows, all interests she hopes to impart to her son who she will welcome in March.

Jamal Collins has 20 years of experience working in financial aid in California. As a California native, he is also a product of California public education, attending K-12 schools, community college, and finally transferring to the California State University system where he obtained his bachelor’s degree. He held various roles in financial aid at California Community Colleges, private for profit and non profit colleges, and at the University of California. In his current role as the Student Financial Support Analyst for UC, he is tasked with educating Californians about the generous financial aid available at UC. Outside of his passion for creating access to college, Jamal also has a passion for bodybuilding and recently earned status as a Professional Men’s Physique Athlete with the World Natural Bodybuilding Federation.
