The Speakers

Michael Lemus (He/Him/His) serves as the Outreach and Marketing Manager at the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC), the largest statewide student financial aid administer in the country. Michael oversees the Commission’s Cash for College Program, California Student Opportunity and Access Program (Cal-SOAP), and the agency’s various marketing strategies.

Michael has a passion for access, equity, inclusion, and marketing & communications. Prior to working for the Commission, Michael worked at various higher education institutions, including those at the CSU, UC, and California Community College system.

Michael identifies as a first generation college graduate/professional, holding a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, a Master’s degree in Higher Education, and a Community College Leadership certificate.

Alex Zucco (she/her) serves as the State and Federal Policy Manager for the California Student Aid Commission, the nation’s largest state financial aid agency. Prior to joining the Commission in July 2021, Alex was in External Affairs for Attorney General Xavier Becerra, serving as the liaison between the California Department of Justice and Central California. Alex has also previously held roles in the office of Assemblmember Chris Holden, California School Boards Association and the California State PTA.

In addition to her work at the Commission, Alex serves in leadership roles with local non-profit organizations, including the Junior League of Sacramento and Leadership Sacramento.

Alex received her bachelor’s degree in Criminology from the University of La Verne and completed The Women’s Campaign School at Yale’s campaign training program. Alex is a fourth-generation Californian and lives in Sacramento’s Southside Park neighborhood with her husband, Joe, and has two grown children.
